A permit for professionals who work remotely for companies or clients located mainly outside Spain.
Is this the right option for you?
This route is designed for people who want to live in Spain while keeping their remote work: employees of a foreign company, self-employed professionals working for clients outside Spain, and people who own a company abroad that was incorporated more than a year ago.
We review your employment or professional relationship, your experience or qualifications, the foreign company’s activity, Social Security, your financial means and the situation of any family members coming with you.
Depending on the case, the application can be made from Spain or through the relevant consular procedure.
If you want to live in Spain without working, a different route is usually more suitable: the non-lucrative residence permit.
Main requirements
These are the essential requirements. The specific documents may vary depending on your nationality, your personal situation and changes in the law.
Remote work for outside Spain
You work remotely, using computer and telecommunications tools, for companies located outside Spain. If you are self-employed, you can have Spanish clients as long as they do not exceed 20 % of your activity.
Qualifications or experience
A university degree, a vocational training qualification or a qualification from a reputable business school, or at least three years of professional experience.
Prior relationship with the company
Your relationship with the company or clients must have lasted at least three months when you apply, and the company must show at least one year of real and continuous activity. If you work for your own company, it must have been incorporated more than a year ago.
Financial means
For 2026, income above €2,800 per month for the main applicant, whether from a salary, your invoicing as a professional or your company’s invoicing. For the first family member, add 75 % of the Spanish minimum wage, and 25 % for each additional family member.
Social Security
Registration with Spanish Social Security or, if there is a bilateral agreement with your country, a certificate of coverage. If you are self-employed, registering as self-employed in Spain is mandatory.
Insurance and criminal record
Public or private health insurance with an insurer authorized in Spain, no criminal record (certificates from the countries where you have lived in the last two years and a sworn statement covering the last five years), and not being in Spain irregularly.
Duration
The visa is granted for up to one year. The permit applied for from Spain is granted for three years and can be renewed.
Family
Your spouse or partner, your children and, in certain cases, dependent parents can apply for their permits with you or later, and they can work in Spain.
